About this research site

Dr. James Lai is a hands-on physician who provides personalized care to his patients, both in his clinic and in his research studies. Prior to moving to his office at the Broadway Medical Building, Dr. Lai served as Medical Director at the Seymour Medical Clinic from 1998-2003. He has been a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at University of British Columbia since 1998. Dr. Lai is also on Active Staff at Providence Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, and the BC Women’s Hospital. Dr. Lai and his research team are fluent in English and Cantonese.

  1. 1A phone call firstA coordinator calls to go through your health history and answer your questions. Nothing is booked until you want it to be.
  2. 2Informed consentThe team walks through the study in plain language, including what is being tested and the known risks.

No. You can contact the site directly. With your permission the research team will keep your family doctor informed, which is standard practice in clinical research.
I am not a patient at this clinic. Can I still take part?
Yes. The site works with volunteers from across the Vancouver area, alongside local family doctors, specialists and nurse practitioners.
