About this study

Do you have elevated lipoprotein levels and suffer from cardiovascular disease?

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of muvalaplin in reducing cardiovascular risk in participants with high lipoprotein(a) who have cardiovascular disease or are at risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Would you like to take part? Would you like a friend or family member to take part?

As a volunteer in a research study, you will receive personal study-related medical care from the study doctor and regular follow up on your health to monitor the effectiveness of the care you will receive. The results of this research will be used to find out if the experimental medication being studied will be of benefit to others with elevated lipoprotein levels and cardiovascular disease or not. Study volunteers are an important part of moving medical care forward.

Who may qualify

You may qualify if
  • Have Lp(a) ≥175 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L)
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
    • Have had a prior atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) event (such as heart attack, stroke, or procedure to restore blood flow to the heart or other parts of the body) within 10 years prior to screening
    • Are at risk for a first ASCVD event, defined as one or more of the following:
      • Documented coronary artery disease (CAD), carotid stenosis, or peripheral artery disease (PAD) without a history of ASCVD event
      • A high coronary artery calcium (CAC) score
      • Reduced kidney function with diabetes
      • Combination(s) of high risk factors
This study may not be a fit if
  • Have experienced a major cardiovascular event or surgery, such as heart attack, stroke, or procedure to restore blood flow to the heart or other parts of the body, within 90 days prior to screening or occurring between screening and randomization
  • Are planning or expected to undergo a procedure to restore blood flow in the arteries or a major heart surgery during the study
  • Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Have New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III or IV heart failure
  • Have undergone a procedure to remove cholesterol from the blood within 90 days of screening, or have a planned procedure during the study
  • Have severe kidney impairment
  • Have had cancer within 5 years prior to screening
Every study has additional criteria the research site will review with you.

Participants who qualify for this study will receive a study-related health examination at no cost, as well as possible compensation for time and travel.

What participation may involve

  • Regular visits with the study team at no cost
  • Study assessments and health monitoring throughout
  • Check-ins between visits

Common questions

Do I have to decide now?
No. Answering the questions is not a commitment — it simply lets the research team see whether this study may be appropriate and contact you to talk it through.
Will it cost me anything?
No. Study visits and study assessments are provided at no cost, and reasonable travel may be reimbursed where applicable.
What happens after I submit the form?
A member of the research team reviews your answers and contacts you — usually within two business days — to answer questions and review the next steps.
Could I receive a placebo?
Some studies compare a treatment with a placebo. Whether this study does is explained clearly during informed consent, before you decide anything.
Can I leave the study after it starts?
Yes. Participation is always voluntary. You can withdraw at any time without giving a reason and without it affecting your regular medical care.
