Common questions about these sites

Where do the study visits take place in Ontario?

At the research site itself, which is a physician-led clinic rather than a hospital research unit. The site page lists the address, the clinic hours and what a first visit involves, and the coordinator confirms the full visit schedule with you before you agree to anything.

Do I have to be a patient of the clinic to take part?

No. The sites work with volunteers from across their area alongside local family doctors, specialists and nurse practitioners. You can contact a site directly without a referral.

Are travel costs covered?

Many studies reimburse reasonable travel and parking costs, and study visits and study-related assessments are provided at no cost to you. What is offered differs from study to study, so the site confirms it in writing before you consent.

How do I find out which studies are enrolling near Ontario?

The studies listed on this page are the ones currently enrolling at the Ontario sites. If none of them fit, the matching questionnaire takes about five minutes and points you to studies elsewhere in Canada that may be a better match.

Who oversees clinical research in Ontario?

Every study is authorised by Health Canada and reviewed by an independent research ethics board before it can open, and it is run under ICH Good Clinical Practice by a physician investigator. Provincial health-privacy law applies to your information alongside PIPEDA.
